The Lost Contract is not a separately obtainable quest in the current version; it is a retained quest definition. The playable lost-contract recovery and repayment path is a branch inside Old Contract.

What to do
If the contract can still be recovered, take it to Knud in Mannshire before returning to Verren. If the repayment objective is already active, gather 1000 Crowns and return to Verren at the Caravan Camp.
01 Earn a Thousand Crowns
This step belongs to the lost-contract branch of Old Contract. After confirming the loss to Verren, the journal asks you to gather 1000 Crowns.

Find Verren at the Caravan Camp in your current save. Paying removes 1000 Crowns; see the linked Old Contract section for the entry conditions, recovery case, and onward journeys.

Verren wasn't happy when I told him I lost the contract. I'll have to pay him back - I need to get a thousand crowns somewhere and bring the money to Verren.
The 0.9.4.25 quest table still defines Gather a Thousand Crowns and Return to Verren, but same-release runtime logic does not start or advance this separate quest. The index retains the official name while directing players to the route that actually runs.
