The Roadside Chapel is a named location and the main setting of A Matter of Faith. The quest takes you through the events at the chapel, a search for a relic and a decision about helping its priest with a ritual. Different outcomes change the chapel's later appearance.

Location and finding the chapel
The interactive map shows one generated world sample. Use the map in your current save and the information revealed by the quest to find the chapel and choose a route.
Accept A Matter of Faith from its quest giver at Rotten Willow Tavern. Accepting reveals the chapel's area. The giver's inn and the chapel are separate locations; return to the inn to report back.

Investigate the chapel and deal with the bandits there. The survival of its priest and gravedigger, and your conversations with them, affect the next lead. The relic investigation then leads to Theosopher's Refuge. If the priest’s route remains available, you can give him the tablet and take part in the ritual, or choose to bring it to the quest giver.
The quest article provides a clickable flow covering acceptance, the different leads, the ritual, gifts, final rewards, and penalties and recovery after losing the tablet. Retrieve the tablet again after the ritual before returning it to the giver.
Characters in the quest
Their presence and available conversations depend on quest progress. The table identifies their roles in this quest; see the quest article for the conditions governing trade, repairs, optional supplies and gifts.

How the location changes
When the ritual is complete and has not failed, the chapel changes to its prosperous scene. Other endings can lead to its desecrated scene. Consult the quest’s outcome table for the specific branches, consequences for its characters and the giver’s reputation rewards.
Scene replacement has its own delayed check: 2 game hours after ritual failure and 24 game hours otherwise. If you are still at the chapel, still need to check the gravedigger or read the note, or have not retrieved the tablet after the ritual, the update is postponed by another 60 game minutes. Some endings request the change directly, but still respect the tablet pickup condition.
Scene replacement is handled separately from the time checks for quest leads and relic delivery. Check the corresponding stage in the full quest article to see which actions remain available.
