Location and generation
The game places the Hermit's Hut as a separate point of interest inside its named zone and chooses a suitable tile from temperate woodland or pine terrain. The pine version uses a different hut room. There is no route or coordinate shared by every save.
The interactive map shows the generated sample documented by this site and can help explain the general area. When searching, still rely on Josh's lead and the explored roads in your own save.
Quest connection
After accepting Herbalist for Mannshire, exploring the hut until the location becomes discovered advances the search objective and changes the next step to claiming the reward in Mannshire. There is no herbalist to escort back; report the result of the investigation to Josh.
The Old Remedy Book can be given to Josh, but handing it over does not complete this quest. See the quest article for its reward, the church conversation 2 days later and the resulting service changes.
