Enemy behaviour

Watch ground warnings, distance, and nearby corpses first. The Ancient Troll's rock gives a one-turn, 3×3 escape window; units on the firing line lower a Crawler's preference for Web Spit; and a Necromancer seeks the highest-Tier eligible Undead corpse. Enemies still compare every usable action, so these conditions manage risk rather than guarantee the next move.

Warnings to read first

When a 3×3 rock marker appears, leave before the next turn. Against a Crawler, distance raises Web Spit preference while other units on its line lower it. Near a Necromancer, every eligible Undead corpse becomes a second target to control.

A skill in the active set can enter selection; it must still score highly enough and pass range, sight, obstruction, resource, lock, and cooldown checks.

Scoring and usability are separate gates

The enemy scores each active skill and checks whether it can be used now; only usable skills compete with the normal attack. Ties may be random, except that a score of 1 does not displace the normal attack when it also has 1.

The example table ranges are 16, 5, and 6, and none allows an extra-range stat to change that value. Final checks also require sight, an unobstructed line, enough Energy, and valid locks and cooldowns; an adjacent target takes the adjacent branch instead of the grid-difference and wall-grid check used at longer range.

How three enemies choose these actions

The table connects enemy identity, skill binding, actual scoring, effects, and player response through one source chain. Scores express relative preference only.

How three enemies choose these actions
Enemy and actionWhen favoredWarning and effectResponse
Ancient Troll: Rock TossScores 5 when the target is at least 3 tiles away and still within Vision; it must then pass its Range 16, sight, obstruction, Energy, and cooldown checks. It marks a 3×3 area and lands next turn. Its base pre-mitigation Crushing Damage input is 60, increased by 10% per tile from the troll to each target when it lands.Leave the marked area; entering its scoring window does not guarantee the cast.
Crawler: Web SpitDistance adds 2 points per tile. Web or the first related state subtracts 20; a separate state subtracts another 20, and the two clauses can stack. Each unit on the line subtracts 1. Table range is 5.On a hit that applies Web, its base duration is 6–8 turns and it supplies pre-mitigation inputs of 8 Caustic and 4 Poison Damage; Web prevents tile movement.Other units on the firing line lower its preference; after being webbed, skip turns to shorten it based on Strength and Agility.
Necromancer: Lesser Ritual of ResurrectionChooses the highest-Tier visible, unoccupied, resurrectable Undead corpse for 3 points; adjacency to the current combat target adds 2. It then checks sight to the corpse; when not adjacent, it also checks the table Range 6 and obstruction. On creation, Health and Energy are initially written as 66% of their maxima and Armor Durability as 0. Each ability applies its cooldown modifier and rounding before multiplying the result by 50%; parameter and defence recalculation still follows.Draw the Necromancer away from high-Tier Undead corpses; it does not choose the nearest, so watch whether the selected highest-Tier corpse enters its final Range 6.

How to read the range numbers

For Rock Toss, “at least 3 tiles and within Vision” is scoring; 16 is the table range passed to usability checks. Tiles 17 to the Vision edge can still score 5, but range rejects the cast. The multi-tile troll scores by minimum occupied-tile distance; the longer-range check for a non-adjacent target reads horizontal and vertical grid differences plus obstruction, so these are not one circular-distance formula.

Resurrection likewise does not find the nearest corpse; it chooses the highest-Tier visible eligible corpse, then applies Range 6 to that corpse.

Why the next move still cannot be guaranteed

Static source closes binding, scoring, final prechecks, and effects, but does not record the complete current-turn state or random tie result; the runtime contract also cannot replay one fight.

Web's 6–8 turns is its creation-time base value; remaining duration can be affected by target stats and timing. Read hit, damage, and status resolution with the combat mechanic pages.
