Helmet Visors
A visor is a switchable state on some heavy helmets. Raising it lowers the helmet's Protection but reduces the penalties to Vision, Accuracy and Energy Restoration; lowering it does the opposite. This page explains when the switch is available and where to use it before laying out the two trade-offs.

What the visor does
Most heavy helmets allow you to raise their visor, sacrificing some defenses in exchange for reduced stat penalties. This can be done through the helmet's context menu in the Inventory, the character's context menu, or with Modes and Actions.
The visor switch belongs to the equipped helmet: the menu creates it only for an equipped helmet that exposes a visor switch. Headgear without that state does not show the action.
How to raise or lower it
There are three equivalent paths: open the context menu of the equipped helmet in the Inventory, open the character's context menu, or choose the visor action from Modes and Actions. The current state determines whether the next menu offers Raise Visor or Lower Visor.
This does not equip or remove a helmet; it switches the state of the same equipped helmet. The changed appearance and the opposite action name in the menu confirm the new state.
The two-state trade-off
The official state descriptions are:
Raised visor reduces the penalties to Vision, Accuracy, and Energy Restoration, but sacrifices the helmet's Protection.
Lowered visor increases the penalties to Vision, Accuracy, and Energy Restoration, but improves the helmet's Protection.
| State | Vision, Accuracy and Energy Restoration | Helmet Protection |
|---|---|---|
| Raised visor | Related penalties are reduced | Lower |
| Lowered visor | Related penalties are increased | Higher |
Which helmets support the switch
The same-release armor table confirms 14 heavy-helmet visor pairs; each pair has a lowered and a raised form. This count belongs to that release's table, does not cover all headgear, and is not a promise about later versions.
The equipment compendium is the place to inspect each helmet's name, icon and stats. This article keeps the shared controls and trade-off here instead of copying one helmet's values onto every helmet.
Documented limits
The same-release sources do not close each helmet's exact Protection delta, stat-penalty delta or other item-specific effects in this shared mechanic page; check the individual equipment entry for those values. The phrase ‘most heavy helmets’ is not treated as every heavy helmet, and support is not inferred from an icon or name.
