Peculiarities of the Brynnian Hunt

Peculiarities of the Brynnian Hunt is a quest from the Brynn merchant Giselbert to deal with a "boar" in his toolshop cellar. The real threat turns out to be a ghoul. Your choice when reporting determines the immediate payment and whether a later visit brings a gift and a personal price reduction.

Quest flow

Select a node for entry conditions and actions. At 04, choose A or B; both continue to 05 for a return visit, but only A receives the gift.

Starting and preparing

01 Ask about the merchant's trouble

Find Giselbert near the toolshop entrance in southeastern Brynn. Starting normally requires level 8 or above; an already started quest also passes the later availability check. Ask where the boar came from, why he has not called the guards, and what the reward is before deciding whether to help.

If you agree, follow him to the cellar entrance. This records the timestamp but does not yet formally start the quest. Initial refusal also starts this deadline. You can reconsider through a later dialogue option, but cannot postpone indefinitely; see the timing node below for the conditions.

02 Confirm entry into the cellar

Continue the conversation with Giselbert at the cellar entrance and confirm entry. This formally starts the quest and opens the entrance. After descending, finish the cellar conversation to advance from entering the cellar to finding the boar; the broken-stairs scene also advances that stage.

Prepare for combat before descending: the cellar ladder prevents departure until the quest target is defeated. This is the cellar of a city toolshop; there is no need to find a boar hunting ground on the world map.

Cellar encounter

03 Find and slay the "boar"

Explore the cellar and open the quest door to trigger the ghoul encounter. When its reveal scene finishes, finding the target is completed and the objective becomes killing it. Defeating the target advances the quest to claiming the reward and removes the ladder's combat restriction.

The merchant's earlier promise of boar hide and tusks is dialogue, while the actual target is a ghoul. Those materials are therefore not listed here as guaranteed quest rewards.

Payment choices and consequences

04 Report and choose your payment

After defeating the target, return to Giselbert and hear his explanation. Accept the agreed payment, or point out that he never mentioned a ghoul and demand compensation. Both routes complete the quest, but the immediate payment and later gift differ; nodes A and B explain each choice.

A Accept the agreed payment

At the end of the report, accept the agreed payment without demanding extra compensation for the ghoul. You receive 300 crowns in total and complete the quest. Once the return-visit conditions are met, the first follow-up conversation gives 1 Repair Kit and a reduction to this merchant's selling-price parameter.

B Demand extra compensation

During the report, point out that he never mentioned a ghoul and demand compensation. You receive 600 crowns in total and complete the quest; this is the route's total payment, not an additional 600 crowns on top of the normal reward.

Trading still becomes available under the same return-visit conditions, but the follow-up conversation skips the Repair Kit and selling-price reduction.

Returning and trading

05 Return to the toolshop later

For either successful route, at least 24 in-game hours must have passed since completion and at least 3 in-game hours since the recorded last visit before the follow-up shop dialogue and trading become available. The visit check counts whole hours and then tests whether that count exceeds 2, so just over 2 hours is not enough. Returning too early can retain the reporting dialogue and refresh the visit timestamp; repeatedly entering and leaving does not hasten the opening.

On the normal-payment route, collect the gift in the first follow-up conversation. The price action affects only Giselbert's selling-price parameter: it adds -0.1 to the base value of 1.25, giving 1.15 without other modifiers. It is not a uniform 10% reduction to every final quote or a citywide Brynn discount.

Refusal, timing and failure

! Timing and failure

After the introduction and your acceptance or refusal, the game checks the deadline each minute while a timestamp exists, the quest is unfinished and cellar entry has not advanced. This can apply before the quest formally starts. When the current map area is outside southeastern Brynn, reaching 2 in-game days triggers failure. While still in that area, the timestamp moves forward each minute. Advancing the cellar-entry stage stops this check, so it is not a fixed deadline covering the entire fight and report.

If you initially refused, return before the deadline and tell the merchant you are willing to help; accepting again updates the timestamp. Even before formal acceptance, timing out blocks the normal acceptance and reward route, and a notice subsequently appears at the toolshop entrance. An already started quest is also marked failed. Damaging Giselbert after the quest has started also fails it, but that is a separate path and does not itself establish that the timeout notice appears.
