Boulder Circle

Cet article n’est pas encore traduit dans la langue choisie. Le texte anglais apparaît ci-dessous ; les noms officiels disponibles restent dans la langue sélectionnée.

The Boulder Circle is an example-position place on the world map whose official description calls it a mysterious structure formed of huge stones, built so long ago that any knowledge about its creators is hopelessly lost to history. One rune stands at the site: the same release gives it three appearances, only one of which exists per save, and each appearance is bound to a single gem - emerald, ruby or sapphire. The altar completes the ritual once you have acquired knowledge of the rune stones and the matching gem is present, consuming that gem, writing an action-log entry and granting 1 Stat Point before the rune lights up and the altar disappears. The place has no independent placement contract and no audited road with it as an endpoint, so this article lists no roads; whether the ritual yields anything beyond its recorded effects, whether it can be repeated, and where the consumed gem comes from have no same-release source (documented gaps).

Sommaire

Location and discovery

The Boulder Circle is a place on the world map: its official name is Boulder Circle and its official description calls it a mysterious structure formed of huge stones, built so long ago that any knowledge about its creators is hopelessly lost to history. It is recorded as an example position and is not at the same coordinates in every save; this site's map shows one example. The same release records no independent placement contract and no audited road with this place as an endpoint, so this article lists no roads and infers no placement rules (documented gaps). The same release's hidden-point-of-interest rule does not include it either, so it is not a hidden place. Use the map and explored routes in your current save when planning.

For discovery, the same release's rumor system registers a dedicated rumor for this place: the speaker mentions a nearby place worth a look and tells what is said about the stones - long ago someone chiseled giant boulders, etched patterns into them and arranged them in a circle, and how or why it was done no one knows; some say the Firns who did not believe in the Host raised them, others that they are the handiwork of St Wald, meant to show the Host's power to the tribes, and there is also talk of strange lights seen there at night. A rumor is only a rumor, and this article does not treat it as a conclusion.

Official description

A mysterious structure formed of huge stones - it was built in such olden days that any knowledge about its creators is hopelessly lost to history.

Runes and gems

One rune stands at the site. The same-release script gives it three appearances, and only one of them exists at this place per save: when the location first appears on the world map, the script picks one of the three at random and records the choice on the tile this place occupies, so the Boulder Circle keeps the same appearance throughout a save. Each appearance is bound to one gem - emerald, ruby or sapphire - and to its own action-log line.

The rune only shows itself at night: the script adjusts its visibility with the time of day, drawing nothing during daylight and showing it fully after nightfall (fully opaque from roughly 20:24 to 06:00 the next day, with a fade at dusk and at dawn). While it is not yet complete, the rune also carries a ring of light, and the rumor likewise tells of strange lights seen there at night. Once completed, the rune rests on its activated frame and puts that light away.

The altar at the site only answers once the character has acquired knowledge of the rune stones, and in the same-release script the only recorded source of that knowledge is a lore book about gems - "Secrets of Precious Stones: From Ancient Times to Modern Days" by Niran of Maen: once it has been read, it records the rune knowledge at the Boulder Circle. Completing the ritual also requires that the rune is currently visible and that the gem it is bound to is present. When those conditions are met, the targeted gem is consumed, an action-log entry is written, the character gains 1 Stat Point, the rune lights up and rests on its activated frame, the altar itself disappears and the place is marked as completed. When they are not met, the altar only gives a single line of speech and consumes nothing.

When it is completed, each appearance grants a +5 attribute modifier: the emerald form grants +5 Max Health, the ruby form grants +5 Physical Resistance, the sapphire form grants +5 Energy; the official action-log lines read "Max Health has increased", "Physical Resistance has increased" and "Max Energy has increased". The script records these modifiers as having no duration, so they do not fade with time. The same lore book also records that the ancient Firns and their druids knew the magical properties of gems and needed them for their rituals, and that stelae at their ancient ritual sites bear symbols pointing at various gems - the Firns called sapphires "divine stones", saw emeralds as an embodiment of health and longevity, and knew ruby, the "fire stone", as a warrior's talisman said to bring strength and courage. Whether the Boulder Circle itself is a Firn ritual site, and who raised these stones when, is not answered by the same-release source: the official description says any knowledge about its creators is lost to history, and the rumor offers conflicting tales (documented gaps).

The following points have no same-release source and are not asserted here: whether completing the ritual yields anything beyond the recorded immediate effects; whether the ritual can be done again and whether the rune and altar return when the room is regenerated; and whether the consumed gem is an item the character carries or a plain object placed at the site, and how the ritual behaves when the matching gem is missing (documented gaps).
